A Centre for Māori art - Māori adult education at Auckland University College

Much attention has been focused on the exhibitions and activities of painters and sculptors who in the 1950s set in motion a Modern Māori art movement, but equally significant during this time was the impetus given to supporting customary arts by the Adult Education initiatives of Auckland University College. This text contextualises tukutuku panels made for the entrance hall of the Adult Education centre in relationship to a wider programme of Māori Art and Craft education and community-led iniatives.
